I'm so many things. A blogger is not one of them.

New addition to the workshop, my grandfather’s old drill press. There’s a date of 1982 on it, the year I was born.

Just got my badass 1960 Ford F100 ornament. Not the same colour as mine will be, but still awesome.

Project Custom Cab

(This blog post should have been written 6 months ago)

I’ve had quite a few weekend/project cars over the years. My favourites were my 1993.5 Volkswagen Corrado (yes, the .5 is important) and my 1995 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. I really regret selling the Corrado.

I sold the Talon in the fall of 2011 and it was time to look for a new project. I’ve always been in love with classic/muscle cars, and I was finally at a point in my life where I could attempt a full restoration project. My first choice was a ‘67-68 Mustang Fastback, my dream car since I was a kid. I looked at a few, but ultimately decided that before I do a serious (and expensive) restoration like a Fastback, that I should start with something a little easier (and cheaper).

I’ve always loved trucks. I’ve never owned or really needed one, but now was the perfect time to have one. After months of searching, I found the perfect project. A 1960 Mercury M100. This truck was perfect for several reasons:

  1. The price was right
  2. It was in decent shape
  3. 1957-60 Ford pickups are under-rated
  4. Early Mercury Trucks were only produced in/for Canada

Perfect. In late April 2012, with the help of my friend Jeff, we u-hauled it from the small town of Godfrey to my place and started tearing her down. More on that later…
